On 12 April 2023 Kolkata Metro created history with successful trial run under river Hooghly and became India’s first operated metro under the river.

India’s 2nd busiest metro is Namma Metro aka Bengaluru Metro. After Delhi Metro it is India’s 2nd longest metro with a system length of 69.9 km. Daily ridership of Namma Metro is close to 550,000 lakh which makes it one of the busiest metros in India. It operates on 64 stations out of which 55 are elevated and 8 are underground.

On 20 October 2011 Namma Metro began its operations. At present it operates on two lines Purple Line and Green Line. Other three lines (Yellow, Pink and Blue) are under construction. It is jointly funded by Government of India and Government of Karnataka.

It is funded by Public-Private-Partnsrship (PPP) model. India’s leading construction company Larsen & Toubro (L&T) holds 90% stake in Hyderabad Metro while 10% belongs to Telangana Government.

Hyderabad Metro has a system length of 67.21 km and it operates on 3 lines – Red Line, Blue Line and Green Line. In November 2017 it began its operations with 57 stations at present. In 2017 it was inaugurated by prime minister Narendra Modi himself.
