NIT Rourkela – Largest NIT Campus In India (Area – 1200 Acres)

Which is the largest NIT campus in India? It is NIT Rourkela which is spread across 1,200 acres. It was established in 1961 on 15 August. It is one of the most reputed institutes in Odisha for which then CM Biju Patnaik himself gave a 648 acres land. A library named after Biju Patnaik is in the NIT Rourkela campus which holds more than 65,000 books.

NIT Rourkela has around 5,700 students. As we talked about REC institutes above, the NIT Rourkela was established as REC institute. Government of India granted autonomy status to this institute in 2002. Its foundation stone was led by then PM Jawaharlal Nehru himself. First batch of the NIT Bhopal started with 120 students and 7 teachers.
